Thunderbird 24.4.0 running on Windows 8.1 has suddenly started to freeze on opening new emails and displays a 'not responding' error message; any solutions? I've tried Thunderbird safe mode and disabling email scaninng in Mcaffe.

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Does problem go away?
