Firefox continues to suggest updates, allthough on my system updating to a later version of Firefox or the latest versions of plug ins simply is impossible.

My system is a Mac G5 quad 4 x 2.5 Ghz, 4,5 Gb RAM with OSX 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.27. Java, Flash, plug ins, etc... are the latest possible for this system. However: there is a problem, since Firefox has asked me to update: since then the question pops-up every other minute and many functions start acting strange: I even can't look at a video on you tube, 'cause after 30 or 40 seconds the video freezes. Nothing of this with Safari 5.0.6, that works perfect on my system. After having used Firefox year after year, all my bookmarks are there, and so on, yet I am forced to change back to Safari, to make the webexperience a pleasant one again ...

Unfortunately your suggestions didn't help me, although I really do appreciate your efforts. Finally I found a solution myself, thanks to the internet: it appears to be a problem, caused by Adobe's Flash Player The solution is described in this video, including the corresponding links to download a new flash player. It works fine for me: I installed it last saturday and not any strange behaviour so far: my G5 PowerPC quad with OSX 10.5.8 yet can view all kinds of videos and websites 'like in the earlier days' and so far no annoying pop ups ;-)

In Options > Advanced > Update tab > Firefox updates, check mark Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk), click Ok to save it, exit firefox and restart it.

also install 3.6.28 the latest for your ppc mac from :

I did everything what you (ideato) suggested, but so far no improvement at all: it's very annoying watching a nice musicvideo on youtube and after 30 to 50 seconds or so the video freezes and the minutes counter jumps to 0 (one of the many examples of strange behaviour). At this moment I have no other choice than putting Safari back in place as my standard webbrowser, 'cause with Safari all strange behaviour is gone and I can do what I want on the web with no problem at all. But all my important bookmarks are in Firefox, and translation tools, and ... Wow, I am very angry!
