I'm trying to update Firefox. Currently I am on v 3.0.3. I downloaded the newest version, and tried to add it to the application folder. There is a dialog that says "Do you want to replace an older version" and I click yes. But then I get a dialog box saying I do not have sufficient privileges to update. I've checked my permissions for the Mac Hard Drive, and the Applications Folder. I have it set for Read and Write for all categories, but still not able to upgrade.

I also checked inside the current version of Firefox, and in the Advanced tab, in the dialog box for updates, the box for Firebox is greyed out. I cannot figure out how to change that.

I'm on a Mac Pro Early 2008, OS 10.5.8

Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Well that was easy! All is good. Thanks.
