Still hoping for a response!

Please, somebody with vast experience must be able to give a clue on what is causing this!

I realise that this must be very boring but I'm still looking for help on how to clear this problem. The message that comes up when I look at "Sent" messages is only a small problem but annoying. Somebody must have a solution, so if so please advise

Hi Total guess here, but as nobody seems to have an answer... Just in case the problem is with one of, or several of, the messages that existed and were restored by Yahoo when the original glitch occurred, and it pops up each time Thunderbird and Yahoo try to sync the sent folder... Could you try moving the older sent messages to a subfolder in Yahoo, or to an archive folder, or a local folder on Thunderbird that does not sync with Yahoo online? I'm hoping you have not accumulated many thousands of sent messages. Appreciate your patience and persistence! Agnes

I have a Major problem with this! 1 I don't know how to do it But more important I have over 10K messages in Sent Folder!

Hi Do you mean you don't know how to move messages to different folders? Perhaps you could find someone local to you who can help you with learning those skills. It is difficult to help at a distance. This is a task that should be taken on with care, if you wish to keep all of those messages. I think you are keeping profile copies as backups - do one before you start a major cleanup, just in case. You might use the archive process. That would move older messages to a sub-folder for each year. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages Note: not advised to select and archive more than 2,000 messages at a time. I would recommend selecting only a hundred or so for the first few batches while you get used to the process, and checking where they go, and that you are happy with the result. If my theory is correct, removing those old messages from Yahoo so they are not part of your daily Sent folder sync should help. Agnes

Agnes, Do you mean I should "Select" a quantity , Max 200, in "Sent" folder & move them to "Archive 2019" Folder & this will remove them from Yahoo but keep the e mails on Thunderbird?

It would be useful to know which account has the 'Archive 2019' folder. Is it in the imap account or is it in 'Local Folders' mail account?

I'm presuming the 'Archive 2019' folder is an imap mail account folder. I'm presuming you have subscribed to see it. I presume that same folder is on server: if you logged on to your webmail account via a browser, you would also see that same 'Archive 2019' folder.

In Thunderbird When you move emails from imap account 'Sent' folder into imap account 'Archive 2019' folder, the emails are still stored on the server, but they have just moved from one folder to another, so that the 'Sent' folder is reduced in numbers and much smaller.

In Thunderbird In that imap account as shown in left 'Folder Pane' How many 'Sent' type of folders do you see? What I mean is, do you see one 'Sent' folder and one 'Sent Mail' folder or perhaps one 'Sent Items' folder?

Please log on to your webmail account via a browser. Do you see one 'Sent' folder and one 'Sent Mail' folder or perhaps one 'Sent Items' folder? Is there only one 'Sent' folder? Please report back with info.

Hi Johnoo and Toad-Hall Johnoo - did you use the Thunderbird archive process in the link I sent (select emails, press A) to create the archive folder? Toad-Hall is very experienced, I'll step out and let him get you through this. Agnes

Agnes, Thanks for all of the help/ideas. Archive Folder 2019 is IMAP I've moved some mails into it & yes I can also see them on the BT Yahoo system , web mail. In Thunderbird:- I have 1 "Sent" Folder only. Also in web mail, BTYahoo, I have one "Sent" Folder.

Perhaps best method is for me to Continue moving Mails from T.Bird "Sent" & locating them in T. Bird "Archive" separating out the years, ie put 2013 mails in "Archive 2013" Do you think this is best idea?

Note in T Bird "Archive Folders" are set up for all years from 2013.

Archiving - using Thunderbird - is not just moving. Archive folders created by Thunderbird live under a main folder called "Archives" with an icon of folders tied with a belt and buckle. Archiving, if the Archive folder is in your Local Folders should move messages off your Yahoo server, depending on your settings. So I am not sure you have read and applied the article I referred you to. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages. Once the Archive folders are set up by Thunderbird, you can just move instead of using the archive process. However - isn't select messages and press A easier? Just be sure you want to remove the messages from Yahoo. I don't want to confuse the main issue here - let Toad-Hall work with you on the Sent folder. Tidy up to local Archive if he/she instructs you to do so. Agnes

I did read the instruction article. But are you saying that I'm wrong in moving the "Sent" items to "Archive" by year.? Are you saying that I should be moving the " Sent" Folder items to "Local Folders"? If so currently, within "Local Folders" I do not Have "Archive Folders" So do I just create them?

Lets start at the beginning so we are all on the same page and we understand exactly what is currently setup on your thunderbird.

It does not matter if those Sent emails are stored on server or stored on your computer in the 'Local Folders' mail account. It is really a choice of preference and there is no right or wrong. The only difference is that it moves emails off the server and creates more space on server. So if you need to create space then archiving to 'Local Folders' is a better option. In which case, as you have a lot of emails to move, you would need to check that you have got fully downloaded copies of emails first. If this is the route you prefer then additional advice will need to be offered before proceeding.

If you want to keep everything on server: BT has an 'Archive' folder on server which you can see via webmail account. In Thunderbird Have you subscribed to see that 'Archive' folder? If no, then you need to subscribe to see it.

If yes, you have subscribed to see it. In Account settings for the BT account, have you selected to use it.

• Right click on bt imap mail account and select 'Settings'
• Select: 'Copies & Folders'

Under Message Archives

• Select checkbox 'keep message archives in:'
• Select 'Other' and choose 'Archive on bt imap mail account'
• Click on 'Archive Options' button
• Suggest you select 'Yearly archived folders'
• Suggest you select 'keep existing folder structure of archived messages'

This last option will keep Sent separate from emails in other folders. But it is not a deal breaker. It's your preference. Tell the forum exactly what you selected.

In 'Sent' folder. select an email so it is highlighted Hold down 'Ctrl' and press 'A' All emails will become highlighted. They will be shown as X number of conversations in the lower Message Pane. You will have some options 'Delete' and 'Archive' If you press 'Archive' button then Thunderbird will create the necessary folders for each year and auto move the 'Sent' emails into the appropriate years. Once completed make sure all those new folders are subscribed.

Regarding the Archive 2019 folder you created : You can then move any emails it contains into the appropriate year. If you selected to keep folder structure, you should find 'Sent' folders within each year. Once done you can delete the 'Archives 2019' folder you created.

Can we please start one stage further back? The idea put forward is that if I move the mails from "Sent" it will stop the message:- "The Current operation in SENT did not succeed --- -- " coming up every time I enter the Thunderbird SENT folder. Do you think it will get rid of this problem?

If yes, my feeling is that I should move all of the "Sent Folder into T. Bird Archive Folders & let T.Bird sort out the years, OK ?

Hi Johnoo Subscribe is needed for Thunderbird to 'see' folders that exist on the online server when using IMAP. In other words, it allows you to choose which of the online folders you want to see (or hide) in Thunderbird. I am not sure you need 'subscribe' for any folders that you want to have only in your local folder and not in Yahoo, but you do need it if the folders exist in your online account. Agnes

Agnes, Thanks. I can see the Archive Folders in T.Bird so that's OK. There are Folders for years 2011/2013/2015/2018/2019, any idea why other years are missing? I'm moving mails to Archive 2011 currently but having trouble using the method of Selecting by Ctrl+A as this selects all in Sent Folder , 10K mails & you say this is above maximum. Is there a method of selecting batches of 100 mails?

Update, I've found a method of moving batches of Mails into "Archive" & I've renamed "011" as "2011 & 2012" Any ideas as to whether this process will stop the message I'm getting when I open the "Sent" folder?

I have now moved all of the mails in by "Sent" Folder to Thunderbird "Archive" Folders, separated by years.

So now I click on a empty "Sent" Folder & the Message:-

The Current Operation on Sent did not succeed. The mail server responded Unavailable UID Fetch Server error while fetching messages Still comes up! So what should I try next?
