Downloaded latest ver of Firefox 32Bit for Win. Extractor runs but no install. Had 64Bit but wouldn't update shockwave. Why won't it install?

I have been running Firefox 64Bit on Windows 7. Recently I have been having problems trying to watch movies online, Firefox keeps returning a message that the Shockwave player was out of date, you go to the link but it returns you to the same page. Finally figured out that it only supports updating the 32Bit version.

Uninstalled the 64Bit version, rebooted computer as advised, downloaded the 32Bit version. Ran an update on adobe flash player then ran the install for the 32Bit version of Firefox.

The extractor runs quickly but then nothing else happens. I have shut down and downloaded a fresh copy of the 32Bit version again and again the extractor goes through perfectly and again nothing else happens. I have tried this process with both the full and stub versions with exactly the same results.

Chosen solution

The solution came from FredMcD, thank you very much. Booting in Safe mode with Networking allowed the software to be installed and for the sake of not having to go through this again, I chose to install the 32Bit version.

The primary reason the software was uninstalled was that Firefox refused to allow an old version of Shockwave to play, refered me to a link but then would not do anything about updating the software in the 64Bit version.

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions on how to overcome this problem.

You might be blocked by your protection programs. Disable them and try again.

Thanks. I disabled the anti-virus software, firewall and Hitman Pro which are the only possible programs that could impact an install and none of them had an impact.

The extractor runs as before but still nothing happens

You got the full version from Mozilla.org , yes?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

The WIn64 Firefox Releases from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ works with the 64-bit Flash Player.

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

However if you mean the Shockwave (for director) player http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/ (which is not used much now days) then yes you need the 32-bit Firefox and 32-bit Shockwave (for director) player on Windows as the Win64 Firefox only has the 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins white listed to run.

The Flash Player can get listed as old name of Shockwave Flash in some places so people may confuse the two different Plugins.
