Beginning this week, Nov 8/9, 2015 performance with Firefox is incredibly slow. Refreshing will fix it, but I have to refresh every time I reopen the browser. Is this related to the version update to 42.0? Is there a permanent fix?

Thanks

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I restarted Firefox in safe mode and do NOT have the performance problem. The problem may be the 'Theme'. It is currently set to the Default Theme being disabled. I am not able to find a button or a way of enabling the Default. How do I enable the Default theme (no button is available).

Note: I downloaded Firefox on a another PC and it has the Default theme enabled and no performance problems.

Are there any other themes present?

Are you running Firefox in Private Browsing mode (never remember history)?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database file then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database file from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
