All of a sudden, when I log on I do not go to my mail. I'm taken to Mozilla or something site with articles. I just want to get to my email. Nothing I do gets rid of the web site. If I leave and come back, same thing! How do I get rid of this Mozilla website?

Sorry, are you referring to the Thunderbird email program or the Firefox browser?

In Thunderbird, normally you will see your Inbox at startup, and there usually is a small welcome page below your Inbox that doesn't block access to mail. Since Thunderbird supports tabs, it's possible that an unwanted second tab might be opening that you need to close in order to get to your Inbox. Could you look on the tab bar to see whether that is what is happening?

In Firefox, you can set the browser to show your home page or your windows and tabs from your previous session. Assuming you want your home page to be your webmail site, you could check whether that has changed using the Options page. See this article for more information: Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.

Occasionally users encounter one of these problems after checking/changing the home page setting:

  • After changing the home page setting and clicking the home button, everything works fine until I close Firefox and start it up again, then the home page is back to an unwanted page, or Firefox restores a previous session. There are several things to investigate to track down the source of this problem (to be described if applicable).
  • Firefox ignores my home page setting, if I click the Home button or launch a new window using Ctrl+n, I get a different page. This often is caused by a bad add-on.
  • The unwanted page only shows if I use a desktop shortcut/icon, either to start Firefox or to launch an additional window. In this case, we can explain how to check whether the shortcut has been "hacked."
