Since the new version of TB 38.1 I have not been able to pop my email on mindspring.com. I am getting error messages.
This started last week and when using Thunderbird it will not pop mindspring.com or earthlink.net. It works on my phone, outlook and my ipad, but not in Thurderbird. The settings are correct and I have tried removing the account and reinstalling it on my laptop. I continue to get these messages. "Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server pop.mindspring.com responded: Authentication failed". When I reenter the password I get this message "Login to server pop.mindspring.com failed." I am stymied as I have to read the email on a remote PC.
Chosen solution
I'd rather look for a new email provider. Any provider not supporting TLS today is just not acceptable. But that's up to you.
now it appears to be working.
Then mark this thread as 'Solved' please. Thank you.

Chris thanks yes already have done that several times and it is correct. Same on my ipad, outlook account and blackberry. They all work just fine but not Thunderbird after the 38.1 update.

I was more looking for the Thunderbird Troubleshooting Information, not the Firefox one.
The settings are correct
Are you certain this is the correct setting? account16:
INCOMING: account16, , (pop3) pop.mindspring.com:110, alwaysSTARTTLS, passwordCleartext
Is this what your email provider requires? Please check with them. Port 110 is typically used without encryption.
Chris yes I know and it was my second post. Did not realize at first I copied Firefox by mistake

Yes it is and I have tried it both ways same message each time. This all started as I said last week when they did their upgrade and only on this account is the problem. All others work fine but this is my main personal email address and I need to get it working asap. I tried removing it and recreating it too and no luck there either.

please check the error console on the Tools menu for error messages similar to those I discuss here http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2015/07/logjam-and-thunderbird.html
Can you first confirm the correct settings with your email provider please? They probably do have a support web page. Once you've got the confirmed settings please post them here or provide a link.

Been there done that.https://support.earthlink.net/articles/email/earthlink-email-faq.php
Note a complete absence of anything indicating a port for incoming. They are truly smart these folk.
No mention of a port in the Thunderbird (Version2?) instructions https://support.earthlink.net/articles/browsers/how-to-set-up-mozilla-thunderbird-to-send-and-receive-emails-v2.php
Windows live mail however does say port 110 https://support.earthlink.net/articles/dialup/setting-up-windows-live-mail.php
So my guess is that no matter how wrong or bizarre those settings are they are probably correct. Hence looking for another issue.
Matt did not see anything like that at all in the error long but gave it a try anyway and still nothing. Keep getting the password error when I try to run read that email. Very frustrating since it works in other readers and all my other email addresses in TB work just fine.

Interesting too as I just tried another POP email address that is set up but I rarely use so do not automatically have it read and download and it failed too same error. That one is same settings but is pop-server.tampabay.rr.com. Those are the only two that I POP. The others that read OK are no POP email addresses.
I think try changing the connection security to none from startTLS and see how that goes. Those settings for live mail I found do not use connection security. So perhaps you should not either.
When I do the auto set up it puts port 110 in TB. your right Earthlink does not say what it is but on my other readers it is 110 too and they work fine and TB worked fine until the new upgrade last week.

Yes have tried that too and no luck. Like I said this is very strange. Do either of you have a POP account you can try to set up on your end in TB and see what happens when you do it? Maybe you have AOL or something you can try to pop?

Now even more interesting. I changed the settings to 993 port and SSL no luck. Then back to 110 and no security. Then closed TB, rebooted my machine and now it appears to be working.

I'd rather look for a new email provider. Any provider not supporting TLS today is just not acceptable. But that's up to you.
