Just updated to Flash's newest version (13.0) I also have the latest Firefox(25.0), the latest RealPlayer plugin and the latest Shockwave & Shockwave for Director plug-ins. But after I Installed the flash update I couldn't watch any videos on any site. the just show up either as grey or invisible, no sound plays either. I tried opening a .swf file in Firefox same problem - just a blank screen. Flash videos/games all work fine in Chrome and Internet Explorer.

I tried restarting my PC, Re-installing flash, Updating all extensions and plug-ins... no luck. Any ideas? Cheers,

Tom

Type about:addons in URL and Goto Plugins

  • Check all the plugins are "Always Active"

Somewhere on the page right click, go to view page info > permissions and make sure that adobe flash content is allowed to play on that domain.

Flash in Protected mode occurs issues too

Hi, Thank you for the quick reply, Unfortunately the problem remains. All of my add-ons are set to Always Active. I couldn't right click anywhere on that page to vue permissions but I did carry out the task from the first link and set protection to 0 for the mms.crg file. Still no change. And I don't have the plugin mentioned in the last link either...

Youtube videos still appear black as the page loads then disappear a second later, if i scroll down/up the page the video element flashes black then reverts back to grey/invisible. Any more ideas? :/

Two things:

  • You said you have Firefox 25. That's not the latest version. Latest is 28 with 29 coming out at the end of this month.
  • Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Sorry that was a typo, My current version of firefox is 28.0

As for the flash hardware acceleration; I can't see a flash logo to click on that link you sent (Adobe Flash Player Help page) So I couldn't get the settings menu up. I assume seeing as my flash plug-in isn't working I can't see the logo.

Still stumped... Perhaps it's to do with my PC not firefox?

I should've known that you had a typo since v28 was listed in your Troubleshooting info.

Do you still have this problem in Safe Mode? If you don't, it's most likely one of your extensions/plugins. You can troubleshoot your plugins by entering Safe Mode. Follow the directions below to enter it:

  • Click Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Click Start in Safe Mode in the dialog box that comes up.

If you don't see the problem occurring, it's one of your extensions. You should first disable all extensions then re-enable them one by one to find out which is causing this issue.

Restarting in Safe-Mode had no effect on the flash video.

I did however find a software update for my graphics card -__- Stupid me right? But then when I installed it I got window's famous blue screen of death. So maybe that driver update is all i need, maybe not but I don't know how to find out... this is really a problem for a different forum now...

Did you try to disable protected mode in the Shockwave Flash plugin?

I just posted a solution to my "videos won't play" problem.

Videos won't play - Comodo Firewall

Your situation may be different. But I'd recommend that you carefully check your firewall settings.
