Why does my computer keep reloading blank pages while reading email ?
My computer constantly reloads a blank page while I am in my email account (Outlook.com- an old hotmail account). I have deleted cookies, deleted history and the cache files according to what one search result told me to do. I have mal-ware and anti-virus which are all up to date along with current windows versions. I reloaded Firefox also, all to no avail. Unless I take my computer to a repair shop, it is difficult to read any email.

Try start FIrefox in safe Mode:
Sometimes the problem is caused by addons, malwares in your case i think can be an addon!
This happens only in outlook or other websites too? Try give us the maximum information
This is happening only in Outlook, not on other websites. I was just on facebook, and it is OK.
Victor, this is only on Outlook, to the best of my knowledge. I was just in facebook, and it is ok.
You said that you delete the cookies, but please try clear your recent history?
Maybe this black page will be a ad, but your antivirus can blocked it try get a ad/ popup block and test again please.
I have cleared my recent history. I have a pop-up blocker under McAfee Anti-virus. I just checked to see if I have any add-ons through the tools menu. There are none.
The ABP add on for ad blocks which is the most common one comes up as malicious software. What's the deal with this??
Hi ginnyinflorida, Adblock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../adblock-plus/) is reputable.
The purpose of trying Safe Mode is to confirm that your current extensions are not responsible. If the blank page reload issues continues, then we can rule out an extension.
OK. Let me go back and try again. I just went to Internet Explorer to see if email is OK there. I changed the internet homepage to www.bing.com and then went to IE. It seems to be OK for the moment in email. However, I want to use Firefox. It must be a Mozilla problem now.
I restarted in safe mode in Firefox and email seems to be OK. What do I do from here?
That's a good sign! It suggests that one of your extensions does something that isn't fully compatible with Outlook webmail. This might include blocking information that Microsoft's site expects, whether cookies, or something else. Could you review your extensions and see whether any of them might filter/block information from the site, to enhance privacy or reduce annoyances or other reasons?
You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, if you see something that might be relevant, you can click its Options dialog to see whether you can make an exception for the live.com site (server that hosts Outlook mail).
I checked the extensions. All are disabled now. Is that because of safe mode? I have Clip Extractor, Key Bar (don't know what is really is), McAfee Site Advisor, Skype Click to call, Sweet Packs Toolbar for Firefox and Wondershare Video Converter. That's all I have in extensions.
I have messages beside Skype Click to call that it is incompatible with Firefox 27.0. Sweet Packs causes security or stability issues and so does KeyBar. I think they are disabled, but maybe only in safe mode. Should I remove all of them. Will I still be able to use Skype if I delete it?
Yes, all extensions are disabled while you're in Safe Mode. Of the ones you listed, I know many users prefer to remove the Sweet Packs and Key Bar extensions, which relate to extra search features. I don't think Clip Extractor or Wondershare Video Converter would kick in on email sites, but I don't use them myself. I suggest disabling the Skype extension unless you use it frequently. If there are problems with email with only Clip Extractor, McAfee, and Wondershare active, one of these would be the problem.
I disabled Sweet Packs and Key Bar. Skype does not have a disable box in the extensions menu. Do I log out and then restart firefox to get out of safe mode?
Modified
Yes, that's right. The next time you start Firefox, it will be back in normal mode.
Thank you jscher2000. I will log out and try it out again. Hopefully everything will work fine now. I appreciate all your help and time!
