Is firefox keeping old tabs open in the background?

Occasionally while browsing, firefox12 will suddenly freeze up and the browser will change with a huge compilation of old tabs I closed ages ago, especially video tabs.

I'm wondering if firefox is somehow storing my really really long closed tabs somewhere and it is causing this mess? Is there a way to disable that or stop it? Is there a way to get rid of this problem in general?

It can occur at anytime. As I observed my own browsing habits and tab habits, I have not come across anything strange that I do to cause this either.

Here is a screenshot of a moment when this occurs. As you can see, much of the old tabs that decide to make themselves known are videos and there seems to be an old pdf in the background. Could this have something to do with the adobe plugin?

-> Start Firefox in -> Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if your add-ons/extensions are causing the problems.

Check and tell if its working while using Firefox in Safe Mode.

Alright, currently running in safe mode for a while. Not sure if I will stumble across this occasional problem soon or at all, but I'll let you know if I do.
