(Hope I got the right category selected) I recently lost my old HD and I'm reinstalling everything on a new HD. I managed to import all my bookmarks, but lost my passwords. Not a big issue, I figured, I'll just have Firefox save them one by one as I run across them on my sites.

Yet I can't get Firefox to save any of my passwords. Whenever I log in, it doesn't promp the question to either save or ignore a password, even though I have set Firefox to remember passwords and there are not exceptioned sites given.

My settings on privacy are to never remeber any of my history and delete cookies and such when I close down firefox. On the security tab I've got the option to remember passwords enabled. No exceptions given.

How do I fix this?

Chosen solution

You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

Firefox doesn't offer to store new passwords if you are in Private Browsing mode, but already saved passwords are accessible. You need to leave PB mode if you want to store a new password.

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

What if your not in privacy mode and you have remember passwords selected, and it still won't remember your password?

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.
