3.6.7 Hanging Often, Progressively Gets Worse
Since the update to 3.6.7 my Firefox has been hanging randomly, and even popping the windows warning "this window is not responding" sometimes. This happens no matter how many times I've completely exited it, or restarted my computer. It also gets progressively worse the longer I leave Firefox open, to the point where doing anything in the browser is inhibited because of this "lag" that affects my entire computer. If I close Firefox and leave it closed, my computer is perfectly fine.
I can't be the only one having this problem, can I?
This happened
Every time Firefox opened
== 3.6.7 update

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."
If not, see this: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+theme...
Same problem - getting worse - hanging or frozen screen every other time.
Yes edmeister, tried with both add-ons disabled and enabled and though with the add-ons disabled it took longer to lag, it still starts to hang over time with them completely off. Even after updating to the new-er update from today 3.6.8.
I've got hang/nonresponsive problems as well, first with 3.6.7 and now with 3.6.8 (I'm running 10.5.8 on a MacBook). Frustratingly, it seems to be Flash--when I disable Flash I can't make it hang, and when I disable all the other plug-ins and leave Flash working it'll hang. However, my Flash version is 10.1.53.64, which seems to be the most recent version available, so I'm at a loss as to how to resolve the conflict.
I'd be happy just to downgrade, certainly.
Same problem here. I tried upgrading to 3.6.8 to see if it helped. It hasn't. I use Gmail, so if it's something to do with whatever that uses as a base (Java or Flash, maybe?) I will HAVE to downgrade to something more stable.
I'm going to try wiping Firefox off the system, and re-installing fresh to see if that makes a difference.
I also have this problem. Almost every time I start up Firefox 3.6.8 on my Windows 7 computer, it hangs and does not recover on its own. It doesn't even go to the crash reporter, although that could be because it's not technically a "crash." But it is getting annoying, especially since I've been loyal to Firefox since before 1.5 came out, and I'm not even close to being prepared to switch to another browser, even temporarily.
I hope there's a fix soon, because even though Safe Mode does currently work for me, I need my extensions for my day-to-day activities.
Same Alex that posted this originally. I recently cleared out my history cache, as it was saved back till January of this year, I now seem to not have the issue anymore after clearing all but June and July's history. It seems that for some reason that was that might have been the problem, so any of you that have this problem, if you have your history saved up for a long time, attempt to clear it out or something see if that just might fix the issue.
This didn't help me... I found, though, that if I open Safe Mode first and close it, then start Firefox normally, it doesn't hang. I don't get why that works, but it does, at least for me. Hopefully this will help someone else, too.
It's now 4 days, so I figured I'd report (tentative) success from removing/reinstalling Firefox.
I started by turning off all plug-ins and all add-ons. That didn't help. special
So, next, I removed Firefox, then rebooted, then reinstalled Firefox 3.6.8.
I've left all plug-ins and add-ons disabled for now.
So far, no hangs (fingers crossed)!!!
I'll post again in another few days, after I re-enable plug-ins/add-ons, and see if any of them are offenders.
FYI: Removing Firefox did NOT remove any of my bookmarks, saved passwords, or history. That's all intact (I did back up everything just in case). After the re-install, all my config info is working just the same. Yay.
When I open Firefox, it works for a while. Then, after I use it for a while, it starts to lag (such as taking a moment to complete an action or maybe a video I am watching on YouTube/other sites) pauses a moment. I constantly remove cookies and cache and search/browsing history now, but to no avail. But, it seems I'm not the only one. So, what really can be done about this? Before the last Firefox upgrade, I never had this problem. Is it something I can do something about or is it just something annoying I have to put up with after using Firefox for a while? ((Note: It seems this is Version 3.6.15 I am talking about...I went to About Mozilla and that's the version that was listed.))
