Hello Dan.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.
Tried without add-ons, but it does not help...
please help!
This will require advanced help. I believe it has something to do with the session restore feature of Firefox, but I can't help you fix it.
In the meantime (that is, before another contributor that knows how to help you comes here), you may want to try creating a new Firefox profile (managing profiles) and see if the same issues occur on that one. This profile can be erased if you don't want it, of course. Please tell us whether the new profile has the same issues or not.
creating a new profile seems to have fixed the problem for now.
after further testing i have found that the audio hangs have lessened in frequency with the new profile however they are still there.
would completely removing firefox and reinstalling fix this? if i do reinstall is there a way to save all my bookmarks before hand?
Dan, if creating a new profile fixes the issue, there must be something wrong with your own profile. The usual suspect is an add-on, but since that's ruled out, I can only think of a setting, or a corrupt file. Please type about:support in your address bar and press ENTER, then click "Copy all to clipboard". Then paste here. Hopefully that will give me a bit more information to work with.
- EDIT:
If the hangs are still present in the new profile, reinstalling Firefox completely will do nothing. Basically, reinstalling Firefox completely is the same as reinstalling as normal (without erasing personal data) and using a new profile. Also, if the new profile still has the same problem (even if less frequent), I can't help you any further, I'm sorry. Let's hope someone who knows how to fix this reads this thread.
