Starting yesterday I can receive but not send any e-mail. I get the above error regardless of which (I have 5) e-mail account I use. Did not have any problem until yesterday. I note that I started receiving junk mail to one account with addresses ending with ".edu."

Somehow your IP probably are blacklisted. If a lot of spam originated from your current IP, you or someone who had that IP before you might be hijacked.

Check for virus using several different programs.

Someone can be using your email account to spam. Change Password.

Or someone has just used your email-address when spoofing their spam. Talk to your Email-provider to make them help you lift that ban

Actually I had a Trojan which was removed but had apparently damaged Thunderbird. However I located how to reinstall Thunderbird on this site and now it works as it always did. Thanks.
