How do I make the new version I just installed work like the old one that stopped working?
I have used Thunderbird for many years and have always been very satisfied with it.
A couple of days ago, it stopped working on my computer. I think this was due to an update of AVG Free 2015. (When I restarted after the automatic update, Tbird and Chrome and Firefox were all broken. AVG has since been removed and replaced with Avast. Chrome and Firefox both work fine after installing the latest versions.) I took the opportunity to get the latest version of Tbird (I was at 37) and installed it. Tbird comes up OK, but the operation is a total disaster!
it used to just see me as the user. Now I have to select my inbox by clicking, then opening it in a new tab. I could accept that pain if things worked OK. The first email I click appears in the message pane. But I can't delete it unless I double click it to make it open in a new tab! I can't get the next message to show in the message pane. This used to work if I simply clicked the message.
How do I make Tbird work like it did? I used to love it, now I hate it!!!! Please help me before I dump Tbird and switch to Gmail!
Thanks for any help.

And it still works like that for me.
First set your account as default Account settings, mark your account, at bottom open account actions, and 'set as default'
Let see how that works

No clear idea why, but I removed some "Microsoft Monkeyshines" (otherwise known as updates) and TBird works like I want it to.
Thanks for your response!
