How to download my emails into text files

I need to download Gmail and Hotmail accounts into plain text files so I can parse through them and get information out

Can I do this with Thunderbird?

I did this a few years ago, but remember I had to use a previous version of Thunderbird to download as the newer one had some sort of problem (which I can't remember!)

Just wanted to check if I would have any problems with the latest version? Once downloaded, where will I find my emails? What folder?

Thanks

Omar

For a single message, Ctrl-S, then Save as Type: Text files. For multiple messages, use ImportExportTools, which offers the options to save as individual text files or a single text file.
