remove foxfire/google homepage
On an XP PC with FF17, I keep getting the FF/Google search for my home page even after I reset browser.newtab.url to www.google.com. Every time I restart FF, it reverts to the FF/Google page. Also when I keep getting the FF screen that tells me it is so good that I updated.
What do I need to look into to fix this?

You may have a user.js file or an extension that reset the browser.newtab.url pref.
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

hello rechmbrs, please refer to the following help article: How to fix preferences that won't save
rechmbrs:
The preference browser.newtab.url sets the page that is opened when opening a new tab; it does not set the home page that is opened when starting Firefox or when clicking on the Home icon on the Navigation Toolbar unless you have your home page set to about:newtab.
You can set your home page to google.com, yahoo.com, mozilla.org or any other page that you wish. To set the home page in Firefox - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page

I stated the problem incorrectly in that the New Tab is the problem. I've changed the browser.newtab.url to www.google.com but after each restart of FF it resets to about:newtab .
How do I fix this resetting action?

user.js was the culprit.
