IOS/iPadOS Dark Mode Theme No Longer Working

more options

With version 124 of Firefox, the ‘Dark Mode’ theme no longer works. Whether I set the theme to “Use System Light/Dark Mode” or if I manually set the theme to dark, it still always shows ‘light’ mode. FYI, my iPad settings are set to ‘Dark’ mode.

I prefer to read white text on a black background - much easier on the eyes! In earlier releases of Firefox, I was able to enjoy reading stories. Now I must set my iPad (manually whenever I want to use Firefox to read) to ‘Smart Invert’ (which will switch the Firefox window to dark mode), then turn off ‘Smart Invert’ to do anything else on my iPad.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Rick, It seems like you've discovered a bug with version 124 of Firefox for iOS. This should be patched later this week, with the release of version 124.1.

If this issue persists, please do let me know.

Thanks!

Hi

Since March 15, 50% of users no longer see Night Mode switch from the hamburger menu. We are using this experiment to monitor and evaluate the impact of removing, so it'll be hugely valuable to hear your thoughts on our feedback platform at https://connect.mozilla.org/.

A dark theme that themes both the app and webpages is still part of Firefox for iOS. You can read more about how to turn this on at: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-themes-firefox-ios#w_set-theme-to-light-or-dark

Thank you.

Here's the workaround for anyone who's interested.

Navigate to Menu > Settings > About and tap on "Firefox <version number>" five times. That will open up a hidden Debug section. From there go to Debug > Experiments > iOS - Night Mode and select "control" instead of "treatment-a". That will bring back the "Turn on Night Mode" menu item.

I pulled this from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1443105#answer-1644537. Thanks TimmyTango.

No need for any workarounds.

Hello wonderful contributors! I have yet another update regarding Night Mode. The Product Team took our users' feedback to heart regarding their complaints about missing Night Mode. The experiment has ended, and Night Mode should be available again to all users by end of day. Thanks everyone!

I found a bug in your Firefox for iPad in Version 125.2 and earlier that has been recurring. Once I establish Dark Mode in one tab, (Tab 1) via system dark mode on iPad settings and Firefox Settings, When I open a new tab,(Tab 2) it will be in Light Mode. When I switch Tab 2 to Dark Mode via Firefox settings, it will automatically switch Tab 1 into Light mode. If I switch all odd # tabs into Dark Mode, all Even # tabs will be a weird Light Mode but with the videos in screen paused in a strange negative photo view. After reading up on all websites, forums on Mac, iPad and Firefox, it seems this is a Firefox Bug. To correct this, all tabs opened in either light or dark mode should be the same mode as the new tabs opened.
