Hi, I have 3 computers. My main computer has Thunderbird with a profile that uses POP and downloads and stores all of my messages. The profile is stored on my E: drive and works perfect. I use a synchronize program to mirror that profile folder to my network drive. When I start my second computer or laptop computer, they also have a synchronize program that copies the profile folder from the network drive to a local folder, and again Thunderbird works perfect. My main computer does NOT have Keep A Copy Of Message(s) On Server checked. I would like this checked on my second computer and laptop, but as I keep updating the main computers folder, this keeps getting overridden. My question is, is there a file or folder I can EXCLUDE in the synchronize copy that would not copy the server settings? Thanks to anyone who may be able to help. Bob

The server settings are stored in prefs.js, which contains a lot of other settings which you would want to copy. This seems like an awkward method to coordinate TB data between multiple computers. IMAP accounts would sync the mail, and contacts and calendars could also be synced. The mail would be stored in a common location on the server, but you could set each device to download full messages or just headers, for selected folders, and copy mail to Local Folders independently.

I realize you may have reasons to use POP, but mention IMAP as an alternative.

Thank you! I was thinking IMAP too, but am getting older and my ability to imagine the setup is challenged. You mentioned "you could set each device to download full messages or just headers, for selected folders" which encourages me to look into it further. Thanks again for your answer.

Keep in mind that to switch from POP to IMAP, it's not sufficient to just change the settings - the IMAP account must be added separately.

The setting for full vs. headers is in the Synchronization & Storage section for the account in Tools/Account Settings.
