I am Windows 10 (64 bit) Build 1903 I always update to the latest version of Firefox. I can do this automatically to my Laptop from Firefox. What I would like to do directly from the Firefox Site is download the update file (approx 45Mb) to a backup device first. My reason is that if for some reason my Hard disk fails or the pc gets corrupted ,once fixed I can reinstall Firefox from my backup device rather than have to go to the Website and select download from there. Until recently I used to update Firefox (and other programs) via the filehippo.com site. Recently that site seems to have become flawed. It shows a new update version e.g xxx.167 but when one selects that to download it is in fact an earlier version e.g xxx.154. That filehippo comment applies to many other programs too. .

What you could do is to download the full installer, Then copy it to your backups.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I am rather paranoid about having backups for everything

That is not being paranoid. It's being careful.
