Thunderbird folder in profile but not displaying

Recently had to reinstall W7 Pro 32-bit. I had backed-up TB using mozbackup previously. After the W7 reinstall and getting TB reinstalled I used the backup to get all my emails back. I noticed that quite a number of folders had been renamed either with a string of numbers added to the folder name or by having strings of numbers replacing folder names. Curious but manageable by renaming the affected folders. However a major problem has emerged in that one quite important folder which I can see in the profile (and which has been renamed with a string of numbers) is not being displayed in the folder pane when I open up TB. I have copied-n-pasted the whole profile to my backup disk so I have a much user-friendly back-up than mozbackup provides. How can I persuade TB to display this folder in the folder pane?

Problem solved and lesson learnt ... don't use "." in TB folder names!
