Windows 10 doesn's recognize Firefox Quantum as a default web browser. How do I set Quantum as the default browser?

Firefox recently upgraded to v57 - Firefox Quantum. Now Windows 10 does not recognize Quantum as a default web browser. Also I am now getting error messages that certain apps (as yet undefined) are not compatible with Quantum. How can I rectify this situation and if there is no fix how can I go back to a functioning Firefox version?

Hey Alexent,

It might be worth checking your Windows Default apps settings to make sure Firefox is set as the default. There are instructions on how to do that in this article: Make Firefox your default browser on Windows

In Firefox Quantum, Mozilla have made some massive changes to how Firefox works. The result is that Firefox is now incredibly fast - and is going to get even faster - but the cost of these improvements is that some older addons no longer work.

You can find out more about these changes here: Firefox add-on technology is modernizing

Fortunately there are loads of great addons for Firefox Quantum - including some great replacements for your old addons. You can find more info here and a list of recommended addons here: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/10/26/helping-find-compatible-extensions/

Cheers!

The problem is that Firefox now doesn't appear in the list of default apps for web browsers so there is no way to select it. Is there any other way to add Quantum as a default web app?

Does Quantum say its the default browser in the Options --> General tab?

No. Quantum says it is NOT the default browser and asks "make Firefgox the default browser?". When I click on the button it takes me to the Windows 10 page for setting defaults but under "web browser" neither Firefox nor Quantum is listed in the choices list. Other browsers are listed but not Firefox.

Other browsers are listed but not Firefox. I have attached 3 screen shots to show this. Screen shot #1 is when firefox indicates it is not the default web browser. Screen shot 2 is the Windows 10 Default page. Screen shot 3 is the drop down when I choose the "set default web browser" button.

I have this problem too. I called Microsoft and they said since Firefox is a third party vendor, they can't do anything.
