Deleted skype, and there are no addons or extensions for skype click to call listed....very frustrating.

how do i disable this feature? i want my ebay transaction links to actually open up the transaction, not dial a fictitious phone number...

the little phone dialler box that opened appears to be related to google hangouts (right clicked and chose "view frame info" and there was something about google hangouts in there...)

the google talk extension is set to "always ask" and i cannot remove it....

pls help...

Hi mickeyaaaa, if you don't use Google Talk, you can set it to Never Activate to disable it as much as possible without uninstalling it through the Windows Control panel or finding and deleting it from your hard drive. Does that help at all?

marked the 2 google talk addons to "never activate".

now the ebay transaction links still open the dialler but the dialler will not call the number - stating "Hangouts needs the Google Talk plugin to make calls. Install the Google Talk plugin."

i will try uninstalling the google talk completely. thanks anyways.

Do you have any extensions that might modify how eBay works? You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. All extensions are optional. If in doubt, disable.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

Uninstalled Google Talk Plugin from control panel. Restarted firefox:

ebay links still open phone dialler and asks for Google talk plugin...

Unresolved. guessing something in the firefox code needs to be hacked here....

No extensions related to ebay... I have several other extensions and dont want to mess up other programs or create new problems though...

Could you give a link to a page that has this problem? I'm not sure where eBay provides links by number rather than item description.

It was in an email alert from ebay...the link should have opened a page related to the transaction ID, instead it opens the google talk dialler...

Hmm, I can't help noticing you're viewing the message on the site of the maker of Hangouts. Might this be an option in Gmail or in your Google account that you could disable?

Hmm checked gmail settings, labs etc....didnt find anything related to google talk or opening a dialler..

After my last reply I logged into Gmail and didn't notice anything unusual about 10-digit numbers. I also never use Hangouts.

If you right-click the number and try to open the link in a new tab, does it take you to eBay or is it still hijacked by Hangouts?

I suppose there could be a way to revert the link to its normal behavior using an add-on, but without hand-on, it's difficult to know what is there to work with.

If i rt click the link to open in a new tab, it pulls up the following box (see attached). It makes a reference to skype which i have uninstalled. and if I try to open using firefox, it just opens a blank page and nothing happens...

If I open the link using Internet Explorer, an error box comes up (see attach). IE also seems to think it's a phone number.....

Could it be GMAIL/google is interpreting this and injecting the link?

Hmm, I don't think Gmail converts numbers to Skype links; Hangouts was more understandable.

You normally wouldn't get that dialog for a regular web link. Could you select that sentence, then right-click (not directly on the link) and choose View Selection Source. That should open a tab with the current HTML of that part of the document highlighted. (Current meaning after scripts have modified it.)

Has the link been changed from href="https://..." to some other protocol?

Without some extension or plugin making the change, I just don't see where it's coming from.

Oh, sorry, it's right there in the second screenshot: something is change the eBay address from an https: link to a tel: link. But what?!

If it's Gmail, maybe it's a feature that I am just not seeing in the old design I use. Are you in the newer "Inbox"?

not sure....just accessing gmail online...

tried turning off any enabled gmail labs addons in settings....no change...
