I need to enable Javascript to log into my medical records, but there is no plug-in icon in the address bar

more options

I have noticed the need to activate JavaScript recently and have been allowing it for one-time use. In the past couple of days, I've been unable to log into my account where my medical records are kept because "JavaScript must be enabled." The site provides instructions for doing so for various browsers, but the instructions are out of date with regard to you. (They indicate that one should go to Firefox Preferences and simply enable JavaScript--which I did and which worked prior to your update.)

Thank you for looking out for our security, but please let me know how to do this if there is no icon on the page to click and there is no plug-in icon in the address bar.

Do I need to wait until the site administrators catch up to your security changes?

Regarding the "plugin icon" in the location bar - to avoid confusion: http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript_is_not_Java

JavaScript is enabled by default - the old 'toggle' was removed because too many users were disabling JavaScript and creating problems with Firefox. Now all there is is the pref in - about:config - to 'toggle' JavaScript.

My guess is that website is seeing something else and raising that alert; like maybe an adblocker. Try the Firefox SafeMode.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
