Every time I close a window after browsing, the "firefox.exe *32" process continues to run. This process repeats itself anytime I open a window, such that I noticed the other day that - with no FF windows actually open - there were 7 processes showing up in task manager.

I saw https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1021112 but since the OP mentioned it was intermittent, I thought I would start a new thread here; also seemed as though that thread was dead.

I have tried safe mode as well as uninstalling/reinstalling and neither have helped.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure how I should respond to it except for clicking on the "I have this problem too" button, which I have done. And I am not sure how your reply helps, but if you are working on the problem in some way, thank you.

Yeah i am really confused about why @forgottengods posted that in both of our threads, as it does not seem to be the list bit related to me - at the least the symptoms that are presenting appear to be different.

The system details you included did not include Plugins details any idea why not ? I do know Sumo have changed the interface and features on question submission recently. Posting questions is not something I tend to do. Compare both linked questions, they each detail plugins

I don't want you to post the path details, and do not need mime types details, but it may help to have a full list of the plugins installed. A screenshot of the plugins tab of your add-ons manager is the easiest method of providing that.

  1. Typing in to the location bar about:addons will open the add-ons manager. Click the tab on the left for plugins.
  2. See How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
    • It will need to be a compressed file. For example .jpeg or .png Windows snipping tool creates suitable files

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Thanks for the reply @john99. Honestly, not sure why it didn't include the information. I got it by going to about:support and clicking "Copy text to clipboard".

I am attaching screenshots of the plugins. Please let me know what else I can do to help w/this.

@FredMcD Here is the contents you asked for which should be the same as what I originally posted. I will try out your suggestion and post my findings.

Annnnnnnnddd it is gone after a reboot. I was having issues w/windows not being able to connect to the system notification service which had been causing problems w/the aero stuff...maybe the two were related. This time when I rebooted, I did not get a message about the system notifications service and the FF process goes away as expected. Blah.

Chalking this up as a Windows problem. I'll try a couple more reboots over the coming week and see if I can get it to happen again. Should I keep this open in the meantime?

The clips of your plugins shows you have multiple and outdated programs.

Adobe Acrobat 10 & 11

Microsoft Office 14 & 14 & 15

NVIDIA 3D Vision 7 & 7

You should get the full installers of the above and remove these.
