Why do security updates change my Firefox appearance

If changing from FF28 to FF29 is for security reasons why does my FF appearance also change as it has nothing to do with security. Is it because some developers think it might be better this way or is there a security problem. I have now told FF not to look for updates as I get fed up with adding extra add-on's just to keep the look and function I have before any updates I have already added Status-4-ever and now I'm expected to add Classic view just to keep what I already had working fine. Is this new change just to try make it look pretty or is there a real security issue with Version 28 Looking for a new browser now.

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.

Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:

Firefox is a work in progress and your feedback is very important to us. Our support community is run by volunteers (like me) who work hard to help all Firefox users, but we can’t make changes to the design ourselves. Please help us improve Firefox by leaving feedback where the designers and engineers can see it: https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback.

The interface you see in Firefox 29 is a major re-design (first one since Firefox 4) of Firefox's user interface called "Australis."

Or if you want to go back to a previous version, completely feel free to use the old, unsupported, and insecure versions of Firefox. Please remember that this puts your machine and personal data at an increased risk. You may then wish to mitigate that by having well rehearsed bare metal restore strategies or using a virtual machine.

Note: I won't provide a link to any previous versions since I'd be offering a less secure and outdated version of Firefox, however, the previous versions are available for download by doing a quick Google search. Please remember to be wary of what sites you download from as they may advertise Firefox 22 for example and package it as a Beta, RC, or other pre-release version and may have malware/adware or other unwanted items.

Every version of Firefox contains security fixes, as well as changes corresponding to work in progress on new features. Since switching to the "Every 6 weeks" update schedule a couple years ago, there are no longer separate security and feature releases, although a few times a year there are emergency bug fix releases if something went terribly wrong in a scheduled release.

Updates for security reasons (and sometime critical fixes) only are called chemspil updates like for example if there was one for Firefox 29.0 it would be 29.0.1

Thank you

you told me changes to Firefox security come with changes to the design layout and are not able to be divided into just security changes.

I will look for another browser as I get fed up with learning where things have been moved to. I have spent some time setting up my Firefox to work as I like it after Version 28. These changes always make me load extra add-on's just to retain what I had. I will use Firefox 28 and just run it sandboxed until I find another browser. I know helpers here are volunteers and I do the same on several help forums. Some answers I get from here border on being rude, not a good look on any forum. Is there a reason why design changes are bundled with security changes?

I have restored my system from an image file I made last week so no need to find a download site. Changes to the layout are not security related and need to be kept as options and not forced on users to keep everybody happy as well as safe

That is EXACTLY what I have asked about 10 times and no one from FF will tell you. They just want to make changes to make it LOOK different and use security as an excuse to mess with other things! Internet Explorer is looking better every day!

Hi Ray35057, no one is saying that the interface was changed for security reasons. It was changed because a more modern interface was tested and found to be more streamlined and appealing in user experience research.

Obviously interface opinions are never unanimous. The add-on community and support volunteers have stepped up to help users who don't like the new interface find ways to tweak it.

This is tech support, and we're focused on the Firefox 29 available today. To give general feedback and/or suggestions for future versions, use either:

None of this helps to answer my first question Why are security updates and design layout changes grouped together People spend a lot of time setting up their browsers and picked Firefox for that reason then along comes a security update that stuffs all our work with one blow. Then we are expected to load a heap of ad-on's to get back what we already had which only does half the job. Not good enough Mozilla
