By the way, there are some unscrupulous sites offering contaminated downloads of Firefox. You can get the official download on the main page of this site: https://www.mozilla.org/

Firefox will run independently of IE.

You have the choice as to whether you want links in other applications to open in IE or in Firefox: this is determined by which one you set as your "default browser." Either way you go, that setting is easy to switch later.

Firefox has its own built-in home page which will come up along with a welcome page. To use Hughesnet as your home page, start both IE8 and Firefox at the same time, and copy the URL from the IE address bar to the Firefox address bar. After the page opens in Firefox, you can easily make the Hughesnet page your Firefox home page. This article has the steps: How to set the home page.

Meant to also ask what will happen if anything to my start menu where I access my outlook express? What about my desktop icons - will those dissappear or still be there? Thanks, Mary Beth

Hi Mary Beth, I'm not sure how IE got set to start up automatically on your system, but that will not change if you install Firefox. Firefox will add an icon to your desktop so you can start it up manually. Your Start Menu items should not be disturbed.

A URL is a web address. For example, if you look at the IE address bar for this page, you'll see something like: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../974278. That address is called a URL.
