Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1
Hello,
Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1.
I have followed the steps below:
1) Export all Safari bookmarks to an HTML file (File --> Export Bookmarks) 2) Import bookmarks into Firefox (Bookmarks --> Show all bookmarks --> Import and Backup --> Import Bookmarks from HTML)
Firefox seems to load the HTML file, but the bookmarks never show up in Firefox.
Any thoughts about why this is happening?
Best,
Jaime.-

You will have to remove all FOLDED attributes in the H3 tags with a plain text editor.
Then importing should work.

You may have to cleanup the bookmarks.html file and remove some attributes to make it work.
Can you post a small part of the HTML file between <code>(file should be here)</code> tags to see what is looks like?
Hi,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Please find below the Safari-generated HTML file:

Hello cor-el,
Thank you very much: that did solve the problem.
Best,
Jaime.-
Could the GEEKS at Firefox made such a simple request MORE COMPLICATED? I am using FF 18 and it is more complicated than any other browser...is this GEEK"S revenge again?
Do you think the average user has any idea WTF this all is or what it means?
I'm with you -- too complex for mere humans!
Have you tried exporting bookmarks from Safari to Google Chrome, and then export THOSE bookmarks from Chrome to Firefox?
OR, did you find another solution?

You offer no information as to how this is to be done...nothing. Geeks assume everyone knows how to do everything. Chroma has no selection in Mac browser as U said only Bookmark Manager, bookmark this page.....no library selection. Its better to say nothing than to give out bad information.
The Library is the Bookmarks/History Manager and can be opened via one of these:
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
- History > Show All History
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/import-bookmarks-html
You will first have to check the HTML file as exported by Safari in a plain text editor like TextEdit and make sure that it doesn't have the FOLDED attributes in the H3 tags.
MUCH too complicated. This is an obvious flaw in Firefox but I hope by Firefox v.99 they will have solved it.
I just created an account so I could say the following:
The fact that you can't simply import Safari bookmarks into Firefox is the very height of dumbness.
And now I'm off in search of a different browser...
What, pray tell, is a folded attribute? I have a PhD in Chemistry and have no idea what you are talking about. Communicating effectively to your audience would be helpful.
This is a problem with the HTML code that Safari is using in its HTML backup file.
You can see an example of that code in one of the above posted replies.
The problem lies in the part of the H3 tags that I've underlined
<DT><H3 FOLDED>Multimedia</H3>
You will have to use a text editor to remove all occurrences of FOLDED in the HTML file to make importing the HTML file in Firefox work.
