time to time firefox will not load, says it is running but cant close and reopen

Every once in a while Firefox will not run, it says something about a file in the profile directory and that it is running and to close the current session or restart. I run task manager but it isn't running. It seems to fix when I clean my computer, I haven't noticed a pattern to this it's just from time to time.
