As soon as I upgraded to 3.6.17 almost all bookmarks were lost. I've searched intensively and played with "restore" etc and have had no success.

If I go back to FF 2.0.0.20 Most of my bookmarks are there. If I go to IE8, I can import my bookmarks from FF.

How do I get all the bookmarks back in 3.6.17 or is it a lost cause? I can't even get it to work with 3.6.3 anymore. Even with reinstallation. I've even installed 3.6.12 at this point and no avail.

I'm on Windows XP.

Thanks for any help.

thanks for the speedy reply "the-edmeister".

I've gone thru the references you suggested prior to posting the question and none of the articles seemed to help me solve my problem.

There is a file "backup.html" which contains almost all of the bookmarks that I need, not all but most of them, but I can't get it to "Restore" from that html file when I go to the Bookmarks->Organize Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Import html selection.

It just seems to only put one of the entries into the BookMarks when it does put something in.

If I restore FF2.0.0.20 I can get back almost all of the bookmarks before I updated. And I can get almost all the current ones if I go to IE8 and import.

What happened here? Did I hit an incorrect magic key?

Okay, I may have found a solution for restoring my Personal Toolbar. I did the following steps.

1) I imported into IE8 all of my bookmarks from FF 3.6.3, I did this to make sure that I could get the info out of my old FF 3.6.3 into IE8.

2) In 3.6.3 under Help-> Trouble Shooting Information->Open Profiles I copied out the profile of me the current user to my desktop as a safety measure.

3) Then I uninstalled 3.6.3 including all of the private data files, etc. In other words I deleted any data to do with FF 3.6.3, passwords, cookies, etc.

4) Then I did a scratch install of FF 3.6.3 and imported my info from IE8

5) Then I just went and looked around in FF 3.6.3 to see what files were in my profile.

6) Then I went and rearranged my imported data.

7) After moving the correct items to the Personal Toolbar, walla, they all showed up again just like before and even the BookMarks drop down had almost everything I needed.

Goodluck everyone, hope this rambling helps a little.

It was when I went from 3.6.3 to 3.6.17 (remember 3 is less than 17) that everything went haywire for me.

I didn't want to go to Chrome since they don't have a way to make session only and permanent cookie choices. Learning curve was also pretty steep. But it does suck in all of the bookmark information effortlessly from FF.

I only keep IE8 around since MicroSquish requires IE for updates.
