how come the awesome bar does not work like it did in other versions?
you used to be able to type in a word like 'facebook' and the browser would automatically go to a site like "www.facebook.com'
now, I'm take to a Google search list with Facebook as the first choice
liked it the other way so much
there are plenty of things you didn't have to change just for the sake of changing them because you guys want to be more hip or cool. change isn't always hip and cool.

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
- Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference keyword.URL, double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
i tried using your link it is not working for me when i put in the URL box, it just takes me to google without any search results either
Thank You Tony E this worked right away thank you so much
Cheers Tony E. That was starting to get my goat. :)
I tried it and it did nothing. Now I need to know how to get back to the default that was there before! Help
Remember to follow TonyE's instructions exactly - you'll need to type about:config into the URL box, search for keyword.URL, and then doubleclick it and paste the URL he provided.
