can't update as don't have system permissions required to install
Firefox vs 3.6.8 I'm the ADMIN and the GET INFO for firefox shows me as having privilege to "read and write". I'm logged in as ADMIN now, and there is NO OTHER ACCOUNT on this computer! When I hit the "check for updates" it gives error: "a recommended security and stability update is available, but you do not have the system permissions required to install it. please contact your system administrator, or try again from an account that has permission to install software on this computer" It says I can download latest vs- I went to link and d/l and tried to install and get SAME ERROR! What do I do now?
(p.s. 2nd prob: when click URL from T-bird vs 3.1.2 it keeps opening two firefox browser windows- one has page with info and other is blank- how to fix that too?)

You can try to repair the permissions for the Firefox application files and folders.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.
Install the new version that you have downloaded.
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
I have run REPAIR PERMISSIONS several times and restarted, and same still happens! I"ll try trash and install next and let you know. Tks for info.
IT WORKED! TKS! I had to DELETE the app and then download NEW VERSION! Before what did not work was downloading UPDATE and trying to install when I still had old one, and it would not let me, but after trashing the older one, was able to install new version. THANKS!
