Can you tell whether the problem is with the built-in feature -- pictured in the following article -- or is it a different feature that could be provided by an add-on?

Firefox Translation

Hey! Thanks for the reply

No it's not an add-on, I have no add-ons with google translate nor plugins. I deleted even ones that were there already and it's still pops up every now and then for no apparent reason

How does this manifest? Do you see a toolbar at the top of the page? In that case this might be a feature offered by the website and you would need a content blocking extensions like uBlock Origin to hide it.

The Firefox Web Translation feature works differently.

The main translation feature is controlled by this pref.

  • browser.translations.enable => true or false

Opening the translation pop-up panel is controlled by this pref.

  • browser.translations.automaticallyPopup => true or false

The feature to translate selected text is controlled by this pref.

  • browser.translations.select.enable => true or false

Note that you do not get the translation icon for pages that are in the preferred language for displaying pages list, in this case use the "3-bar" Firefox menu button.
