The new Thunderbird Agenda adds an additional annoying step to see and modify events

Hello,

1. Before the new 93.0 update, when I clicked on an event in Thunderbird Agenda, I could write directly in the pop-up window and save it. Now I can't write directly in the pop-up window and must click first on lower right "Modify" button, so it's adding an additional step to do the same thing as before.

2. Even if I just want to see the event without modifying it, if the entry is long, I can't see it in its entirety because the pop-up window's size is limited and the system doesn't remember the vertical size (only the horizontal size) if I resize the window, so everytime I open an event to see it in its entirety I have to resize it or I have to click "Modify".

So the question is: am I missing something, or is it supposed to work like this, or will it be improved and/or, reverted to its previous better behaviour?

Thanks for your answers!

1. Before the new 93.0 update:

Thunderbird release is currently on 91.2.1

For the default 'Home' calendar, you can right click on Event and select 'Edit' Or select the Event and press the 'Enter/Retrun key to open the Edit directly

It is only the double click which opens the pop up window you are talking about and then you would need to select the 'Modify/Edit' button.

I find if I hover over the 'Event ' whether in list or caledar, it displays full information. If I create initial event and extend window to cope with content and then save it, the next time I wish to Edit, I find it has remembered the window size. However, I use the right click on mouse and select 'Edit' or select the event and press 'Enter' key.

The double click to view in pop up does not remember the window size. So I'm finding same issue in that specific area.

Thanks for tuning in!

You're right, 93.0 is Mozilla Firefox right now :-)

There's a thread going on about this : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1685007

Let's hope it will be fixed.

I tried what you said but I can't open events with Return key directly from agenda cells (but I can from the above Events list, which is useless because this list is for all events and is too big to be practical). When I double-click on an event and presse Return, it opens an editable window ONLY if the event is unique, not if the event is recurring (in this case Return... closes the window, why?). Also hovering is useless when the event is too long, so you have to open it anyway then you have to resize the window to see everything but it doesn't remember the size and it's annoying to do it everytime and it doesn't make sense because you'd rather have an editable FULL-WINDOWED window open at once anyway. Also this intermediate small window remembers only the *horizontal* size not the vertical size, why?.

So IMHO still some fixes need to be implemented, crossing my fingers for our talented devs to realize and improve this aspect!

re :which is useless because this list is for all events and is too big to be practical.

That's true, but there are some ways of reducing the 'All Events' so that it becomes more useful.

If you are dealing with events in the current month, you can click on the 'All Events' drop down and select 'Events in this Calendar month' and that would reduce the list displayed. Quite often I use the search to narrow things by typing eg: F1 or Mexico (I am a follower of Formula 1) - it will also return a search based on the category you may have assigned like 'Follow up' or 'Birthday', therefore typing 'Follow' returns any 'Follow up' category or if that word is in the event info. Sometimes, I use the sort options available via the column headers, such as 'Category'

This means I'm now making more use of those types of search and sort so I can use the select and Enter/Return key to get direct to the Edit. I'm finding it quite effective and efficient, it just meant I had to get used to doing things a bit differently. It was a functionality, I wasn't really making the best use of until now. As the Editing of Event window can be made a lot larger and it is remembered, this has also significantly reduced any scrolling or making window larger because I'm not really using that display info window which has the 'Edit' button. At least I'm not being annoyed by constantly opening and then clicking on Edit/Modify button or scrolling or making windows larger. Life is now much easier.

Thanks!

I didn't use at all this function and I played with it around a bit, it can be definitely useful (I used to close it to spare space).
