How will I be able to keep v68-based Firefox ESR during the Jul-Sep 2020 "overlap period"?
Just planning ahead here...
I have Firefox 68.9.0esr (the latest esr version). I have Firefox set to “check for updates but let me decide whether to install them.” I have read that a new version of esr based on Firefox 78 will be released on June 30, 2020, but that there will be an approx 3-month overlap period during which one can alternatively choose to use additional 68.xx esr updates.
If I want to take advantage of this overlap period and keep using an up-to-date 68esr as long as possible, how would I do so? After June 30, will I be offered only 78esr versions, or will I be offered the “overlap” 68.xx? If the answer is that I will be offered 78esr as of June 30, how can I obtain the overlap 68 esr updates instead?
Thanks.

Existing Firefox ESR Firefox 68.#.# shouldn't receive the "new" ESR major version "bump" until 2020-09-22 when Firefox ESR 78.3 comes out. Fx ESR 78.0, .1, & .2 would be like "pre-release" versions for "enterprises" to get up to speed with.
At least that was how it has been done when the 6 week interval for "Release" was used; I suspect that will move forward with the new 4 week schedule - but with more .0.# ESR releases between each major ESR version change. That would keep the ESR major versions closer to being once each calendar year.

Firefox 68.12 ESR will be the last update for the Fx 68.0 ESR channel and will be out along with Fx 78.2.0 ESR and Fx 80.0 Release on Aug 25. When Fx 81.0 Release and Fx 78.3 ESR are out the the older Fx 68.0 ESR channel will be End Of Life or EOL.
Thanks, but I had already seen that document. Useful dates, but the schedule doesn't address my process question.

What specific reasons do you have for wanting to stay with Firefox 68 and not updating to a newer version ?
I like to delay the occurrance of unexpected surprises, e.g., some add-on I like stops working or some function stops working or some customization stops working.
