I have a mailing list with nine emails. This morning it worked fine. Now instead of putting the email addresses in the To space it puts the name of the List and when I send I get <> is not a valid email address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email.

I am glad I am not the only one. My list name is two words, it has been working fine for years. How can I fix it please. All of my lists are now broken and the same happens if I create a new one.

Change the spaces to underscores in the List Name (double-click a list to Edit).

This was fixed in TB 68.8.

Check to see if you have any add-ons to thunderbird. If you do you must delete them. Then try to send a group email again. This now should be successful. If you need the add-ons that you had before install the current version(s) of the add-ons one at a time and send a test group email after each install. This worked for me after several very frustrating hours.

Hi! I have the same problem. I have too many mail list to change every single one.

Even I have problemas when creat a new contact and try to add to a older Mail List. The contacts are showing with <> at the end too.

Try removing any add-ons to Thunderbird one at a time. Seems that you must reinstall any add-ons with the current release to solve this issue, go figure. I just deleted the 2 add-ons an things then worked.

It's perfect Thank you

Boy, I was wondering if I was the only one - I WAS NOT!

I went through my address book and got rid of any with a nickname. Then I assigned nicknames to 3. If I entered more than 4 characters the program started doing strange things. I reduced to 2 characters and now everything is dandy.

There is a strange problem, now........

I've entered at least one firm post that I solved the problem I had with the fix of putting in the underscore spaces. Please do not continue post's to me as if I still have my problem. Thanks!

My solution after al your inputs was to edit the description field to change the spaces to underscores, solved, but why oh why !!!!

I have had the same problem. Is it going to be sorted?

helen18 & others: as already indicated above, for most of us the fix was to replace spaces with underscores. Here is my example which worked for me while using six groups:

Group_Xxxxx_CDA

I'm also experiencing this problem. Reading through all the "fixes" I tried removing he quotation marks in the email address. Instead of <"my list"> which did not work it tried <my list> which did work. You have to manually remove the quotation marks as I know of no other way to modify the email address permanently. I'm not a tecky kind of person.

This all started after the last update. CHANGE IT BACK MOZILLA!!!!!

This is the second time I've indicated that using underscore's solved my problem some time ago.

I have a similar problem today. My lists are gone. Their names contained only letters and numbers. What can I do ? Should I go back to the TB60 version?

Thanks

This is the second time I've indicated that using underscore's solved my problem some time ago. And this is a copy of the entry above. PLEASE fix this thing repeating over & over. Surely you can do better than to ignore me, it's very irritating.

Sorry Don. My problem is a little bit different : I have lost my mailing list.

to Don: just turn your notifications off or ignore them; nobody is replying to you only and we all know that underscores fixed the problem.

Sorry martine.gautier, but when you say my lists are gone, you mean they disappeared? Basically this should not be an issue, since lists are made up from existing addresses in the address book and can be easily re-assembled. Or did I misunderstand your problem?

more options

No problem with existing addresses. But I had different lists with 200 addresses. I can't re-assembled them, because I don't know how they were made up. Thanks for your help.

The problem is *not* solved. For, it exists on Thunderbird 68.10 (on Windows). Worse: renaming the address book does not fix it, for the 'to' field in the compose window persists in showing the old name. Even exporting and reimporting the address book - which itself was a grim experience - does not solve the problem. (I lose track of the hours I have lost with Thunderbird bugs. This might be the worst yet, though.)

EDIT: I had to remove *all traces* (including from collected addresses) of the list and then totally re-create it - without any spaces in its name.

I came across this problem too - finding my mailing lists had all disappeared. Panic! After reading these replies I tried typing the name of one of my lists in to the New List option, thinking I might have to re-establish it, whereupon ALL my lists miraculously reappeared.
