Sent mail arrives at recipient with wrong From name
My mail account is set up with name 'John Doe' in account settings. Mails I send arrive at recipient showing 'Bob Smith' in From field. Checking the mail in Sent folder shows 'John Doe' in From field. How can I ensure mails are sending with the correct name in From field?

What mail provider? while the from can be set, some providers just ignore what you put in there and replace it on the way out with what you have set on their web site. Hotmail in particular are good at replacing all mail with the from registered to the primary account. (their Alias feature is useless unless you restrict yourself to web mail)
Mail provider is btconnect.
Is this for just one recipient or everything you send. Thunderbird will look in the address book and match a name with the address if it finds one. If the one recipient has you in their address book wrong that may be the issue. If this is for everything then it is something else.
Hi Airmail, Problem is affecting multiple recipients.
How many mail accounts / email addresses have you set up in Thunderbird ?
Please post some info: In Thunderbird
- Help > Troubleshooting Information
- do Not select to include account names
- click on 'Copy text to clipboard' button
- In this forum question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste'.
- You can edit/remove all info regarding fonts and printers but do not edit anything else.
I have a mail account with BT.
When I send emails I use a particular spelling - it is how I spell my name like a shortened versioned of same name. It is also how my name is shown in Thunderbird due to what I have in my address book. However, after email has gone through the BT server, they may not apply that particular spelling. They may change it to my full formal name because that is what was used when I set up mail account with BT. If you logon to Webmail account using a browser, then check under 'Options' > 'Advanced Options' section for 'Mail Accounts' you can see what name the server is actually using. You can edit that name.
