I can connect to the Charles Schwab website using other browsers with no problem. But when I try with Firefox, the address bar looks like it has connected, but the display area remains completely blank. I can connect to other websites with Firefox with no problem. I am running a laptop PC using Windows 10.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Sometimes websites that redirect during login get stuck on a blank page if you have enabled the redirect block. Here's how to modify that setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste access and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

Success?

I went to the page you suggested and found the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference was not bolded and was showing default and false already. The website was still behaving the same way... i.e., it was just displaying a blank page when it redirected... The URL for the website I've been trying is www.schwab.com. As I said, I can use other browsers (i.e., Internet Explorer 11) to display the website with no problem.

If you click in the address bar and press Enter, will the page load?

I'm not sure what's special about Schwab's sites (The Log In link gives a huge list of pages, and potentially they work differently from one another as well...).

Thanks both of you for trying to help. The solution suggested by Cor-el did the trick ... namely, clearing the cookie for the schwab website. I had saved the schwab log-in page as a bookmark. When I cleared the cookie for it, www.schwab.com took me to a non-redirected page, from where I could go to the login page. Again, everything is working as I wish. Thanks for the help.
