When in email write mode, address and subject areas are greyed out and will not accept text.

A new write email does not allow entry of address or subject. This area of the email window is greyed out. A reply email will show the subject of the original email, but when trying to edit the subject line itself, it will edit the "Write:" line at the top of the window itself without change to the subject line. I have reinstalled Tbird with no success in changing this behavior.

First, check that you have hardware acceleration disabled (the default) under Preferences/Advanced/General, then start in safe mode again and check 'Reset Toolbars and Controls' and click 'Make changes and restart'.

Are you using a non-default theme in normal mode?

still no answers. Does anyone know why this is happening? I cannot send any emails if Tbird won't accept addresses.

Does it happen in safe mode? Help/Restart with Add-ons Disabled, or hold Option key when launching TB.

tried Help/Restart with add-ons disabled, and the write window functions properly. What does this say about what the problem is, and how to fix it? The only extension is Lightning, and it was already disabled.

that seems to have fixed it, thank you so much! I'm using the default theme, nothing special. Funny my searches on this problem turned up no solutions. Glad you were there.
