sending mail using RCN
My internet provider is RCN. I use Thunderbird for email. I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail out. I either get an error message or it times out. I have tried many different configuration for the outgoing port. Nothing works. We called RCN and they said that the problem is Thunderbird. I have been using Thunderbird for 17 years with no problems then one day late April/early May 2017 I was able to send out mail in the morning and then in the afternoon was not able to sent out mail and still can't send out mail. Please help me to fix this problem.

According to their website, you should be using smtp.rcn.com on port 587 with STARTTLS security and normal password authentication, and your email address as the User name. If it doesn't work with those settings, there may be a security program interfering, as suggested above. Also worth deleting any passwords for the smtp server in Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, OK, restarting TB, and entering the correct password when prompted.
