Do I have to creat a Firefox account during installation?

While installing the Firefox browser, a window opens for creating an account.

1) Is it essential to creat an account for completion of the installation, or is it only an option?

2) What are the advantages of having a Firefox account?

Another question about installation: since I have Windows XP (SP3), is it preferable to install an older version of Firefox rather than the most updated one?

The account is totally optional the main use is/was if you have additional devices and use Firefox Sync. Other services now also use that.

Install the latest Firefox version. If you only get Fx43 use the update options from that. (I think sp3 gets Fx45.0.2 direct currently, but sp2 initially gets Fx43)

All WinXP users (with default browser useragents) downloading Firefox on mozilla.org gets 43.0.1. It is not possible to tell by useragent if the user has SP2 or SP3 installed on system.

The issue is the WinXP SP2 users cannot install Firefox 43.0.2 and newer setups due to the Microsoft requirement of signing of setups so they need to do updates to get current Firefox.
