Every time I open a new tab, all I see is a blank page which says 'file not found'.
The address bar shows the the text 'chrome://quick_start/content/index.html'. I have tried changing the default new tab page but this never works.

Hi, try this: Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.newtab.url and make sure 'Value' is set to about:newtab (right click to change it). (Take care not to change anything else).
I hope that will work for you.

Hi Shreyas11, Sorry you are having problems, but probably some adware or malware.
Thanks for including System Information. I am not familiar with "PriceFountain" or "Roll Around" what are those ? Did you deliberately install the extensions ?
Using the Firefox addons manager and the Windows Control Panel remove any obvious unwanted toolbars or programs. Then scan with multiple and fully up to date tools.
Please follow the advice in the link immediately above and then do the full scans as mentioned lower down in this post. I note you have a user.js file that may need attention separately. Post back saying what you tried and what the results were.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
You may have had an extension like Fast Start that has left this setting for the new tab page.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
