Will Firefox beta always auto-update to the latest beta version?
I'm currently on 36b. This is actually the first time I've used beta in a long time because I wanted MSE enabled with "mostly full" support for HTML5 video for sites like youtube. I decided to uninstall Flash due to its ongoing security issues so that's basically why I went to Firefox beta.
Fast-forward a week, and now I find out that Mozilla pushes through a very sneaky (no release notes) update to beta a couple days ago that disables MSE. So now I'm left in the dark on what I should do -- that's basically question #2. My main question was, what is my current beta going to auto-update to when an "update" is available on 23 Feb...version 37beta? That's a hard question for Google to answer apparently. If I change my update channel in about:config to say "release" is that going to blow up my extentions and bookmarks when an update comes and gets "downgraded" to the "release" version? I'm kinda hesitant to jump to "Nightly" just for the sake of getting a functional MSE again...and btw, is "Aurora" now = "Nightly"?
Thanks bye.

There are four main development channels. Release, Beta, Aurora (aka developer edition) and Nightly.
Release will only update to Release and never to another channel like Beta. The Beta channel can get six to twelve builds for a version with with nine or ten builds being common.
Aurora and Nightly gets checkins almost everyday so therefore they can get updates each of those days.
You cannot change the channel in about:config as that preference is misleading as it just shows what channel you are on. You need to modify a file to do so. However a beta would not update to a Release so the easiest is to install a current Release.
.... If you want to test then http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23 is where many testers hang out.

MSE (Media Source Extension has been backed out of Firefox 36 beta to give it another 6 weeks of testing before going to Release.
