Garmin Communicator not working

As of yesterday Firefox seems unable to run the Garmin Communicator plug in.

When attempting to download from my Garmin watch, I get the message "Garmin Communicator Plugin was not found on your computer" and a link to download. I've done this now at least a dozen times and the plug in is showing in my Firefox Plug-Ins and Extensions as being installed, but Firefox does not semto want to find it and run it.

I've been using this plug in for at least the last 2 years without any issues and it still currently works OK in Chrome which leads me to suspect it's a Firefox issue.

Today I've been forced to use Chrome although I prefer Firefox, however as the ability to download runs from my watch is vital to me, if it's not sorted I will have to migrate to Chrome.

Any suggestions please?

Chosen solution

Eventually I discovered the reset Firefox option

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems

and it solved the problem for me.

Bit late now though as the issue moved me to a Google Chrome user

I had tried that before posting here - made no difference at all.

Have to think it's version specific as it all works ok on my laptop which has an older version of Firefox running.

Guess it will have to be Chrome for me then

What are the current settings for this plugin in Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins?

Did you check if there is a plugin icon on the left hand side of the location bar?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

The Plug In is showing Always Activate.

When I do the install there is a plug in icon showing in the location bar, however it does not appear when I go to the Garmin page that needs the plug in to upload data

The whole install seems to work as usual - ending with a request to restart Firefox, however after the restart I still get "Garmin Communicator Plugin was not found on your computer"

This is the Plug In that I'm trying to install - http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html

Went back to 23.0.1 which works OK on my Laptop without success so back again to Firefox 24.

One interesting thing to note - when I attempt to install the plug in again for the new version I get a message

This add on could not be downloaded due to a software failure on software.garmin.com

Didn't have that problem with installing on Firefox 23

Seem to have the same issue with Tom Tom!

Firefox keeps saying mytomtom isn't installed when it is. Chrome works without a problem.

Looking time to leave I think
