Bobwhi: If you are talking about the snapshots of your bookmarks then, There is a square icon on the new tab page, top right corner, if you can see. It is use to hide/unhide the new tab page[Pinned Bookmarks], clicking on it will fix it. Make a note that firefox keep changing them until and unless they are not pinned. So you can use the "pin this site" icon which appears when you hover your mouse on any snap(left top corner of the snap).

If you are asking about the bookmark toolbar then: Click on "firefox" menu. Options > Bookmarks Toolbar.

Cheers!

However what you did show me was another way to keep my most often used bookmarks on the toolbar by pinning them. Thanks for your help
