The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thanks for the info, but the reset option did not solve the problem. I did disable JavaScript and logged into Facebook and it did not crash. But then I am unable to use some of the features on the site like chat for example.

Is there any other possible solution. I have already tried uninstall and reinstalling Firefox. Is it possible that there could also be a problem with the script on the Facebook? Although I am able to access the site through IE8 without error.

You can check for issues caused by plugins like Flash or Java.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Not sure if this is the problem here but:

Update:

There is apparently a known issue that is being worked on by Facebook developers.

From (sumo)meeting notes https://etherpad.mozilla.org/sumo-2013-03-11

  Firefox Desktop
Facebook crashes - Caused by the Facebook Desktop plugin. The developer has pushed an update. Users should all be on the newest version in the next few days

There could be a bug filed on this, but I did not find it.

Meanwhile other posts indicate that the workaround is to disable the Facebook Desktop plugin.

I am having the same problem. I am using Firefox 20. Inevitably, when I am on Facebook, my Mac has a j=kernel panic and a black screen drops down. This happens in Safe mode also. Here are the recent crash report IDs: Report ID

Only the submitted CrashID s; the ones starting with bp- are of interest. You seem to have various signatures and are using Firefox120.

You may wish to post back here to confirm you have started another thread.
