Why does Firefox delete older inbox files unexpectedly?

On 3 previous occasions, I found most of my older 'INBOX' files in 'TRASH' folder, but was able to save them. Now I find most of my older files gone - I must have missed the last time Firefox did the unrequested delete of these files. They are gone, and Firefox is still removing older files without asking or my request.

Why is this happening, and how do I stop this?

If no solution, how do I save all my 'INBOX' and other files on my local hard drive and not at Firefox?
