I have the newest version of firefox and the first problem i started getting was connection timed out server not found from searching in the start page. If i searched in the web address page it would pull up. I restarted firefox from the help tab and the first time i search from the start page it works than if i close everything out and start again it does nothing, but if i search in the web address it pulls up.

mozilla.cfg did not exist

the only .js file is channel-prefs.js The contents of that file are:

//@line 2 "e:\builds\moz2_slave\rel-m-rel-w32-bld\build\browser\app\profile\channel-prefs.js" /* This Source Code Form is subject to the terms of the Mozilla Public

* License, v. 2.0. If a copy of the MPL was not distributed with this
* file, You can obtain one at http://mozilla.org/MPL/2.0/. */

pref("app.update.channel", "release"); I did a complete clean install again and after opening and closing the browser twice it does not load the google search.

I am running Linux Mint Mate 14 and had the same problem. I reset everything form the troubleshooting menu. did not work. So I uninstalled Firefox and Reinstalled Firefox. Still same. I noticed that your solution was to reset the search parameter in ABOUT:CONFIG. I checked mine and it was set to 'Google'. I hit the HOME button and get the same screen. No Google preceding the search bar. I went to the search bar on the upper part of the screen and Yahoo was my search default. So I went in and added 'Google' to it(using MANAGE SEARCH ENGINES). Closed out Firefox and restarted and It now had Google preceding the search bar and was working. STopped and started several times. Fixed it for me. Hope this helps
