The latest version of Firefox is 62% downloaded but has stayed that way for about 45 minutes. How can I get it to finish the process?

My older Firefox version came on with a message, saying that version is outdated. It also said I could get a free upgrade, so I clicked the Upgrade Now button. The update began well but has stayed frozen and 62% downloaded.

Try to download manually the latest firefox rather to upgrade.

You can download it from www.mozilla.org

Firefox 3.6.28 is the newest version of Firefox for OSX 10.4. You need to update your operating system to use a newer version of Firefox.

Upgrading beyond OS X 10.4 is not possible on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and a Mac with an Intel processor.

For an unofficial Firefox ESR 10.0.5 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Plugins are no longer supported by TenFourFox.
